Polls are open Saturday in Dawson County for the upcoming Nov. 4 General Election.

Voters can cast early ballots from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the board of elections office, at 96 Academy Avenue, near downtown Dawsonville. Early voting continues Monday through Friday during normal business hours until Oct. 31.

As of Monday afternoon, more than 850 voters had cast early ballots, according to Elections Supervisor Glenda Ferguson.

The Saturday early voting period coincides with Dawsonville's annual Mountain Moonshine Festival, which means travel to the elections office could be difficult as many downtown roads will be closed to thru traffic.

From the Ga. 400 area take Hwy. 53 toward Dawsonville to Perimeter Road, and turn right.

At Shoal Creek Road, turn left and then right onto Tucker Avenue.

The detour will take drivers past the Dawson County Law Enforcement Center and back onto Hwy. 53 West to the right.

Next, turn left onto Maple Street. The elections office will be on the right at its intersection with Academy Avenue.
Normal access to the elections office will be available from the west side of town onto Academy Avenue.

Also note that while many lots throughout the downtown area will be used for festival parking, the parking lot at the elections office will be reserved for voters only.
