A Dawson County engineer and general contractor was appointed last week to the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Danny M. Bennett, 48, was appointed by Gov. Sonny Perdue Friday to serve for five years on the board, which governs and reviews engineer and land surveyor license applications to the state.

The board also offers expertise and consulting regarding engineering law, Bennett said.

“This is a real honor,” said the University of Georgia graduate, who will act as the board’s civil engineer representative.

A principle with Georgia North Contracting Inc. and Contracting Engineers Inc.,

Bennett is vice president of Reid and Reid Contractors in Cumming.

He is a registered professional engineer and general contractor and is a member of the board of directors of The Citizens Bank of Forsyth County.

Bennett lives in Dawsonville with his wife Tammy.

The couple has two children, Hannah, who attends Georgia Tech and has followed in her father’s engineering footsteps, and son Eli, a student at Lakeview Academy in Gainesville.
