The Dawson County School Board and the Dawsonville City Council each respectively chose new offices for members last week.

City Councilman James Grogan was nominated as mayor pro tem for the 2011 year, and Will Wade was nominated as school board chairman for the year.

Wade said he is “excited as always to be a part of one of the best school systems in the state.”

Added Wade: “I’ll do my best to work alongside teachers and parents. I’ll do my best, because I know they’re doing theirs.”

It marks Wade’s second stint as chairman of the board. He was nominated in 2006 as well, and he’s been on the board of education since 2004.

Grogan, who is a relative newcomer to the city council, will be serving for the first time as mayor pro tem.

“I’m excited to be serving in that position, and I look forward to serving the community,” he said.

The mayor pro tem serves as mayor in the absence of the official mayor.

Grogan was elected to the city council in 2010.
