The Dawsonville City Council is expected to adopt its 2009/2010 budget at a special called meeting at 4 p.m. Monday at city hall.

The proposed $1.16 million budget does not call for a tax increase, despite a decrease in revenue due to the current economic climate.

The city's 2009/2010 $1.16 million budget is down slightly, by about $73,000, from 2008/2009.

City Administrator Kim Cornelison first presented the proposed budget, which does not include any new staff or previously anticipated special purpose local option sales tax revenue from Dawson County, on June 1.

Cornelison said the city has cut staff by about 25 percent to make up for lost dollars.

The city is also adjusting spending to see "what other expenses we can terminate," she said.

A second hearing was held on June 17. No one spoke in favor or opposition of the proposed budget.

The council will meet at 4 p.m. June 29 at the G.L. Pete Gilleland Chambers at city hall to vote on ratifying the budget.
