A non-profit organization that provides community based mentoring to youth is looking for volunteers to spend time with young people in Dawson County.

Mentor Me North Georgia matches adults one-on-one with “at-risk” youth in the area.

Case Manager Amber Martin said currently there are four young men who are on a waiting list who live in Dawson Couty.

“We are seeking volunteers, men, who will work with these young men,” Martin said.

Martin said the organization pairs adults with children “in need of a role model and a friend ... it usually will help the at-risk youth to grow into a stronger and healthier young person.”

She said volunteers need only “show up and be yourself.

“I look for personality traits that match up with the kids’ personality traits,” she said. “I interview all of the volunteers and we run background checks and make sure everybody’s safe.

Martin said Mentor Me was previously Big Brothers/Big Sisters but branched off.

To volunteer with Mentor Me North Georgia, e-mail Amber Martin at amber@mentormenorthga.org or call (678) 341-8028.
