Middle and high school students in the Dawson County school district can get free H1N1 vaccines next week with a permission slip from parents.

The board of health met with school officials Tuesday morning and scheduled Dec. 9 as the date to administer vaccinations.

Vaccinations will be given by school nurses at Dawson County High School, Dawson County Middle School and Riverview Middle School.

Depending on how much of the vaccine is left, elementary and pre-kindergarten students may also be eligible for the vaccines from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 9, which is an early release day.

If available, pre-K-fifth grade vaccines will be given at the high school.

District School Nurse Coordinator Jeannie Edwards urged parents "to be aware that this is going to require that the permission slip be signed by them...parents should be on the lookout for these consent forms."

Students with or without insurance are eligible for the free vaccinations.

Edwards said the health department received more than 700 doses of the H1N1 vaccinations Monday.
