The Sawnee Foundation is currently offering scholarships to eligible seniors graduating in 2013.

Scholarships will be awarded to students selected from the Sawnee EMC territory, consisting of parts of Cherokee, Dawson, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall and Lumpkin counties.

To be eligible, a student must be a high school senior and the student's permanent residence must be served by Sawnee EMC. Scholarship packets have been delivered to local high schools in the Sawnee EMC territory.

Students that are homeschooled or attend private schools may download the Youth Scholarship application online at www.sawnee.com/round_up/scholarships.aspx.

The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Jan. 11.

For more information, contact Director of External Affairs Cindy Badgett at (678) 455-1399 or via e-mail at cindy.badgett@sawnee.com.

In April 2012, the Sawnee Foundation Board awarded 15 scholarships at $3,500 each to very deserving students.

"Students don't have to be straight ‘A' students, just hardworking students that have a desire to go to college," said Deborah Pelfrey, foundation board member.

The number of scholarships to be awarded, as well as the dollar amount, is determined each year by the foundation board.
