Rotary Club offering scholarships to local students

The Rotary Club of Dawson County is offering several scholarships for local students this month. The deadline to apply is Friday.

“One of the great traditions of the Rotary Club of Dawson County is supporting local students through scholarships,” said Christie Moore, scholarship committee chair. “We are thrilled to expand our scholarship program in 2019 and will be awarding $6,000 in scholarships.”

2019 Interact Scholarship

This year, the Rotary Club will be offering three $1,000 scholarships to Dawson County High School seniors who are active members of the Interact Club.

A primary principle of Rotary is to serve its community through the creed of “Service Above Self.” Applicants are asked to describe in their own words (250 words or less) what their involvement in the Interact Club has been and what they have learned through participating in the club.

They are also asked to state in their own words (250 words or less) what they have done during their high school career to exemplify the Rotary creed of “Service Above Self” and how will apply it to their life as a college graduate.

Applicants need to include a resume or senior profile. The application does not require recommendation letters and should not be included with the application.

 

The Rotary Inspirational Scholarship

The Rotary Inspirational Scholarship is a $2,000 needs-based scholarship for Dawson County High School graduating seniors.

Explanation of financial hardship is a criterion of being chosen.

Applicants must submit an essay describing their personal story, goals for their future including academic and career goals, and explain any adversities or challenges they have faced and how they were handled. A resume or senior profile should be included with the application.

The application does not require recommendation letters.

 

The 2019 Rotary Postsecondary Scholarship

The 2019 Rotary Postsecondary Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship for any student in their second year or above in any postsecondary academic institution that is an immediate family member of a Rotary Club of Dawson County member that is current on their dues and has a 50 percent or greater attendance record over the last 12 months.

The applicant must be actively enrolled in a postsecondary program to be eligible.

One letter of recommendation is required with the completed application.

Applicants must describe in 250 words or less how they have embodied the Rotary creed of “Service Above Self” during their postsecondary career. They must also state in 250 words or less how receiving the current degree they are working to achieve will enable them to better serve their community.
