Dawson County school officials are holding a special dedication ceremony Aug. 1 for the district’s newest school, located on Dawson Forest Road West.

Parents and students can get a first glimpse at Riverview Elementary School, which is scheduled to open its doors for classes Aug. 9.

About 325 students are expected to attend the district’s fourth elementary school during the first year, according to Principal Julia Mashburn.

Following an April 12 vote by the Dawson County Board of Education, school district zones were redrawn to include Riverview.

The new attendance zones were designed to relieve overcrowding at Robinson Elementary, the district’s most populous school, according to Superintendent Keith Porter.

Robinson’s enrollment of 700 students was scheduled to drop to 535 with the opening of Riverview.

The dedication ceremony is scheduled for 3 - 4:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at the school, which is located at 370 Dawson Forest Road West.
