Dawson County Emergency Services invites all current sixth and seventh graders to attend the county’s inaugural Junior Fire Academy, July 27-31.

For one week, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., students will learn basic fire instruction skills, CPR and first aid, along with other structured classroom activities. 

Participants will tour Dawson County Emergency Services facilities, attend K-9 demonstrations, and check out fire equipment from all over Georgia.

The academy will be held at Riverview Middle School, with no cost required to attend; lunch will be provided each day.

Wrapping up with an awards banquet on the last day, the Junior Fire Academy offers fun, games and excitement for participants.

Students will be selected to attend Junior Fire Academy based on their entry of an essay entitled:  “Why I Want to Attend Junior Fire Academy…”

The essay should be limited to one page and must contain the student’s name, address, phone number and date of birth, and must be returned to the student’s homeroom teacher by May 22. 

Students will be notified of acceptance by mail. Academy is limited to 50 students.
