Family night a success at Riverview Elementary

Riverview Elementary held its first family event on Sept. 5.

Named Curriculum Night, the evening for parents and children alike started with a pre-game show in which parents and students could visit their grade level homerooms to ask questions and get information about their child's classroom and curriculum for the school year.

After getting all the information, everyone gathered in the gym to await the main event. Students were able to shoot hoops with the team players for a few minutes before the game began.

After shooting a few rounds, students and parents gathered on the sidelines to watch the faculty basketball game.

Riverview Elementary teachers divided into two teams, blue and silver, to battle for superiority. The game ended with blue beating silver 17-9.

The game consisted of five segments, each lasting five minutes. Between each segment, Riverview Elementary staff informed parents and stakeholders about topics such as the grading system, attendance policies, state-mandated testing, report cards and benchmarking assessments, the Title One system and good study and homework habits.
