Dawson GED program recognized

Instructors and students at the Dawson County Adult Learning Center were recently recognized for achievements in GED testing.

A division of Lanier Technical College, the Dawson campus earned first place for the Highest Increase in Level Completions with 17.08 percent at the Dawson Detention Center and first for the most improvement county with 57.1 percent, up from 21.2 percentage points last year.

Additionally, Dawson was second in the Highest Level of Completion with 66.1 percent, and third in Highest GED Pass Rate at 84.6 percent.

The center also holds claim to the highest GED test score across the state.

Student Jonathan Hopkins was first in Georgia and is now enrolled in the Horticulture Program at Lanier Tech's Forsyth Campus.

Lanier Tech kicked off National Literacy Week by recognizing members of the college's Adult Education Programs throughout the seven county service area earlier this month.

Despite the turmoil over the last year, as classes were canceled and pushed online due to COVID-19, the graduation rate in Dawson County for 2020 remains one of the highest in the state, according to Dawson County Schools Superintendent Damon Gibbs.
