The Dawson County Chamber of Commerce has been awarded a grant by the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education to help encourage more students in Dawson County to apply for and attend post-secondary institutions.

The chamber is one of only five chambers in the state of Georgia that has been awarded the grant.

The chamber is partnering with Dawson County High School to host multiple events to encourage all students to consider attending a post-secondary institution.

Former Dawson County High students that currently attend North Georgia College & State University and Lanier Technical College, as well as a couple of local business leaders spoke at an event held last week at the high school about their diverse experiences and encouraged them to attend a school that fits their needs.

A second event held on Monday included an expert from GAcollege411.org who explained how to make college affordable.

Admission experts from local institutions were also in attendance.

For more information, call the chamber at (706) 265-6278 or Dawson County High School at (706) 265-6555.
