The Bowen Center for the Arts will be offering scholarship opportunities to Dawson County college-bound graduates, according to a recent press release.

“The historical Bowen, now in its 20th year, is proud to provide two $500 scholarships as financial assistance on your way to an arts degree,” the release said. “It costs nothing to apply, so don’t miss this opportunity.”

According to the release, the arts are defined as one of three categories: visual (painting, sculpture and photography), language (prose, poetry and journalism) or performing (theater, dance).

To apply for one of the scholarships, applicants must be a member of the Class of 2020 graduating from Dawson County High School and have a 3.0 GPA. Applicants must also have demonstrated artistic skill in a measurable way in one or more of the three areas of the arts as well as involvement in the community, the application states.

“Applicant must have demonstrated initiative in one or more of the following: leadership position or active participation in school, church, or community activities, entrepreneurial efforts, business aptitude,” the application said.

Students interested in the scholarships must send in a completed application, attachments and samples of artistic work by May 15. These items can be mailed to The Bowen at P.O. Box 849 or hand-delivered to The Bowen at 3334 Ga. 9, Dawsonville, GA 30534.

Screenings will be done from application information and artistic samples, and recipients will be awarded scholarships in the form of a grant.
