Do you know someone who goes above and beyond in their duties to their church, community, school or civic organization?

If so, the Dawson County News would like to hear about these "Outstanding Citizens" of Dawson County.

Nominations are being accepted for the Jan. 27 edition of the News that will include a special section that pays tribute to Dawson County's Outstanding Citizens of 2016.

"There are people in the community who go above and beyond and don't receive any recognition. Those are the people we are looking for and believe deserve to be honored," said Stephanie Woody, Dawson County News general manager.

Last year's "Outstanding Citizens" included a little league coach who preaches love of the game, a volunteer who strives to preserve Lake Lanier and a school resource officer who is not only a role model, but also mentors students, among others.

"We hope the community can help us find some of these special residents who often times fly under the radar," Woody said.

The deadline for nominations is Jan. 8.

Nominations can be mailed to P.O. Box 1600, Dawsonville, GA 30534, emailed to or faxed to (706) 265-3276.

Please include your name and contact information along with the person you are nominating.
