Dawson County residents will have a chance to meet Republican candidate for governor Brian Kemp on Monday on the first stop of a 27-city bus tour.

Kemp will be stationed at John Megel Chevrolet on Ga. 400 starting at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 1.

"I look forward to sharing my story, vision, and plan to grow jobs, lower taxes and healthcare costs, strengthen rural Georgia, invest in public education, protect HOPE and keep Georgia families safe on the Putting Georgians First Bus Tour," said Kemp in a press release Sept. 21. "As governor, I will work around the clock to ensure that our best days are always ahead."

Kemp, the current Georgia Secretary of State, is campaigning against Democratic nominee Stacey Abrams and Libertarian nominee Ted Metz for the Nov. 6 election.

Kemp beat opponent and Lt. Governor Casey Cagle by a landslide in the Republican primary runoff in July, nabbing 69.45 percent of the vote.

Kemp is a native of Athens and has served as secretary of state since 2010.
