Wrestlers qualify for Championships

For three Dawson County varsity wrestlers, an entire season of dedication and hard work has paid off with a chance to compete in the State Championships this weekend in Macon.

Continuing his amazing year, sophomore Gavin Brown won first place at last weeks State Sectionals Tournament at Ringgold.

Brown (182 pounds) improved to a record of 50-2 this season and will take on senior Hayden Dilbeck of Banks County in the first round of the State Championships.

Dawson junior Keaton Toal (195 pounds) finished third at Sectionals to improve to 26-4 and will match up with sophomore Andrew Posten of White County in Macon.

Rounding out the list of State Championship qualifiers is senior Evan Kells (170 pounds) who improved to 49-5 after his fourth place finish at Sectionals. Kells will battle Jackson senior Daivon Ledford.

Seniors Cory Jenkins and Harley Vaughan finished in fifth place at Sectionals and qualified to serve as alternates at State.

The State Championship action at the Macon Centreplex will commence on Friday for Class AAA wrestlers with the Finals on Saturday.
