The season may be coming to a close, but there is still much wrestling to come for 10 members of the Dawson County varsity squad.

Among the impressive results, the Tigers named four individual Area Champions including sophomore Justin Evans (106 pounds), senior Evan Kells (170), junior Keaton Toal (195) and senior Harley Vaughan (285).

In the team standings, Dawson earned runner-up to Woodward Academy out of all Area 3-AAA teams.

Senior Cory Jenkins (132) and sophomore Gavin Brown (182) earned individual second place finishes and also advanced to the Sectionals this weekend at Ringgold.

Also qualifying for Sectionals were sophomore Harrison Adams (126), senior Levi Pressley (138) and junior Zach Guy (160) who finished in third place, and senior Anthony Underwood (113) who earned fourth place.

Serving as an alternate at Sectionals will be junior Jacob Haberkam (220) who finished fifth at Area.

Dawson improved its result at Area this season after just four qualified for Sectionals in 2012.

Earlier in the week, Dawson County honored its seniors as the team finished the regular season with a sweep of the competition.

The Tigers finished the season with an amazing 34-8 mark, just one victory shy of the school record of 35-5-1 set in the 2004 season, according to Dawson head coach Arron Haynes.

On Senior Night Dawson earned a 51-27 win against Riverside Military Accademy and a 51-21 win against Forsyth Central.

In between matches the team recognized its seven seniors including manager Paige Reece, Danny Maciolek, Jenkins, Kells, Pressley, Underwood and Vaughan.

This Friday and Saturday the action at the Sectionals Traditional Tournament gets underway in Ringgold as wrestlers hope to qualify for the State Tournament at the Macon Centreplex.
