A Big Canoe man was killed in a car accident involving a semi-truck on Wednesday.

Claude Nix Jr. 81, was driving a 2008 Toyota Sienna minivan east on Highway 53 between Shoal Creek and the intersection with Highway 183 when he crossed over the center line, according Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Robin Stone. It's not known why Nix crossed over the line.

When Nix crossed the center line he was struck by a 1999 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Waymon McMillan, 43 of Maxton, N.C.. According to the report, McMillan attempted avoid the van but was not able to.

After the impact, Nix's car was knocked into the north roadway edge and overturned. The semi-truck rotated clockwise and turned onto its left side.

Drugs and alcohol were not believed to be factors in the accident.

Nix died at the scene.

No charges were filed in the accident.
