A Forsyth County woman is accused of stealing more than $7,000 from cash registers at Walmart in Dawson County.

Shelby Annette Sweatman, 18, faces 16 counts of theft, which occurred from June 3 to July 24, officers said.

According to Dawson County Public Information Officer Tony Wooten, Walmart began auditing the registers Sweatman worked on, noticed that money was missing and then alerted authorities. Walmart documented 16 different occasions in which cash ranging from $100 to $1,820 was missing from registers, Wooten said.

Sgt. Anthony Davis took Sweatman into custody after she allegedly admitted to the thefts.

Sweatman was arrested on July 24. She was released from the Dawson County Detention Center on July 25 with a bond of $15,200.
