Traffic delays, road closures on June 6

Marathon

The 2015 Bootlegger Marathon will be held in and around the City of Dawsonville on Saturday, June 6. The event begins at 6:30 a.m. and should be completed by 2:00 p.m. Expect traffic delays and some road closures for the duration of this event.

The following roads will be affected:

Academy Avenue between Ga. 9 south and Ga 53 east will be closed for a short period.

Allen Street will be closed for the duration.

Perimeter Road will be closed to through traffic from Georgia 53 east to Shoal Creek Road. Residents of Perimeter Road will have access.

Howser Mill Road will be closed to through traffic. Only residents of Howser Mill Road will have access.

Ga. 9 north will be reduced to one lane from Perimeter Road to Castleberry Bridge Road inside Lumpkin County. Traffic will be escorted through by deputies. This portion of the marathon should be completed by approximately 9:30 a.m.

Ga 9 south will be reduced to one lane with a detour in place for a short period early on.

There will be other runner crossing locations that will cause delays along Ga. 53 east and west.

Access to the Dawson County Library will be from Memory Lane only.

Dawson County law enforcement asks residents to please be patient and plan accordingly and to exercise caution while driving in the area.
