A Dawson County elementary school teacher has resigned after being arrested this summer.

Nicole Cagles resignation was accepted by the Dawson County Board of Education at a special called meeting on Friday, July 25.

Her resignation was one of several brought to and approved by the board along with several hiring recommendations.

Cagle, who had been a fourth grade teacher at Robinson Elementary since 2005, cited personal reasons for resigning, Assistant Superintendent Lisa Perry reported at the meeting.

On June 22, Cagle, a resident of Gilmer County, was charged with being a party to criminal trespass, and allowing another to violate state law, according to a Gilmer County Sheriffs Office incident report.

With Cagle at the time of her arrest was another Gilmer resident, Stephen Ray Sanford. Sanford, 37, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, terroristic threats and acts and having an open container while operating a vehicle.

Neither had a previous arrest record, officers said.
