Record lows expected, warming shelter open at Rock Creek Park

A warming shelter remains open through 8 a.m. Friday at Rock Creek Park. Record cold is expected today and Friday with approximately 42 hours of below freezing temperatures. Weather profiles indicate snow/sleet/freezing rain by Saturday a.m. then freezing rain/rain throughout the day.

The shelter, located off Highway 9 at 445 Martin Road in Dawsonville, will provide a warm, safe place to sleep, shower, and rest. A cot and blanket will be furnished. No meals or personal items will be provided. Those planning on using the shelter will be responsible for their own food, bathing supplies, personal items and any necessary prescription medications. The shelter is for Dawson County residents only. No animals other than service animals will be allowed.
