Nine arrested in weekend drug busts

Two separate incidents on Aug. 18 led to the arrests of nine people in one day on drug-related charges.

Four were arrested during a routine traffic stop by Deputy Jeff Moore shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday. Joseph Robert Cansler, 42, of Sweetwater, Tenn., was charged with a taillight requirement. After a search, a sizable amount of methamphetamine, a variety of prescription pills and approximately $3,000 in cash were recovered from the vehicle.

Cansler was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count trafficking in methamphetamine or amphetamine, and one count of drug-related objects.

Others arrested are:

Stephanie Kayla Adkins, 40, of Gainesville, charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of trafficking in methamphetamine or amphetamine, and one count of drug-related objects;

Samuel Lee Smallwood, 39, of Madisonville, Tenn., charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of trafficking in methamphetamine or amphetamine, and one count of drug-related objects;

Crystal Gene Tyner, 28, of Madisonville, Tenn., charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of trafficking in methamphetamine or amphetamine, and one count of drug-related objects.

Deputy Anthony Davis and Deputy Steven Knowles, along with his K9 partner, also assisted with the investigation. All four suspects are being held in the Dawson County Detention Center.

In a separate incident on Aug. 18, five were arrested on possession of marijuana under one ounce, with one charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, allowing the juvenile to drink.

A search warrant for a home, executed around 6:30 that evening, led to the uncovering of small amounts of marijuana, some prescription pills and underage consumption of alcohol.

The five arrested are:

Daniel Brandon Scroggins, 19, of Dawsonville, charged with one count of furnishing/purchasing/possession of alcohol, underage;

Joshua James Soule, 25, of Dawsonville, charged with one count of possession of marijuana and one count of furnishing/purchasing/possession of alcohol, underage;

Johnathan Raymond Kaste, 25, of Gainesville, charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance;

Dane Anthony Meyer, 19, of Dawsonville, charged with one count of possession of marijuana and one count of drug-related objects;

Marla Dees Meyer, 44, of Dawsonville, charged with one count of possession of marijuana and one count of furnishing/purchasing/possession of alcohol underage.
