Lumpkin Campground celebrates 183 years

Dawson County residents and guests have enjoyed fellowship and an old time, outdoor church revival at the Lumpkin Campground for 183 years. Founded in 1830, the campground was once part of Lumpkin County until Dawson County was formed in 1857. From left foreground: Ethel May (Elliott) Smith, Bill Elliott, background: Ophelia S. Mamee, and Mary Gober Thompson. The ladies were part of the first graduating class of DCHS in 1953, along with 27 other students.
