Lady Tigers win Christmas Tournament

The Dawson County Lady Tigers beat Schley County and Pacelli to capture the championship trophy in the Pacelli Christmas Tournament in Columbus last week.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 24-8 first quarter lead against Schely County in the first game and never looked back, winning by a final margin of 79-23.

Our scoring was spread around really good, with Carly Gilreath getting 15 points and six assists, Coach Steve Sweat said. Morgan Huber had 12 points, Sheyenne Seabolt had 10 points and eight rebounds, Whitney Glover had nine points, Kim Wallace scored eight points and had three assists, Allie Costley had seven points, Kenna Seitz and Ashley Parker had six points each, and Hannah Moye, Alison Honea and Hannah Porter chipped in two points each.

Dawson County won the championship game for the second year in a row, beating Pacelli 57-35.

I dont know of a better way to start the Christmas break than by winning a tournament, Coach Sweat said. I want to thank our parents and families for the great crowd we had supporting us all the way in Columbus.

Carly Gilreath led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 12 points. Ashley Parker and Sheyenne Seabolt also reached double figures with 10 each. Other scorers included Allie Costley with nine, Kacie Bearden and Kim Wallace with five each and Morgan Huber, Whitney Glover and Kenna Seitz with two points each.

Allie Costley also contributed 10 rebounds and six steals. Ashley Parker pulled down six rebounds, while Kenna Seitz and Whitney Glover had five each.

Dawson County improved the 7-4 for the season.

They were scheduled to play Murphy High from North Carolina in the Battle of the States tournament beginning Tuesday night.

They return home Jan. 6 to host Rabun County.
