The Dawson County High School Lady Tigers lost a close one in the preseason scrimmage against North Forsyth High last Thursday night, 54-51.
Despite falling behind the Lady Tigers fought hard down the stretch.
We played pretty good in a tough loss to AAAAA North Forsyth, said head coach Steve Sweat. Two times we got behind by 11 points and fought back to tie the score. We had way to many wasted possessions because of turnovers.
The Lady Tigers entered the fourth quarter down by 11 points - after being outscored 15-5 in the third - managed fight back on solid free throw shooting. The team made 7 of 9 from the line in the fourth.
Junior Carly Gilreath led the team with 20 points and shot 7 of 8 from the free throw line. Freshman Sheyenne Seabolt contributed nine points and pulled down five rebounds. Juniors Allie Costley and Kacie Bearden both contributed seven points. Costley also grabbed four rebounds.
Senior Morgan Huber contributed five points, three rebounds and played tough defense with six steals.
Senior Kim Wallace picked up two points and two rebounds and junior Hannah Porter contributed one point and two rebounds.
The Lady Tigers officially opened their season Tuesday night at home against Tallulah Falls High School. Results of that game were not available at presstime Tuesday. The teams next home game is Saturday, Nov. 19, at 3 p.m. against Towns County.
