Roundabout

The Georgia Department of Transportation will hold a public information open house to receive feedback on a proposed roundabout at the intersection of highways 53 west and 183 (Elliott Family Parkway).

The meeting will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 5-7 p.m. at the Dawson County Government Center, 25 Justice Way, Dawsonville.

Costing an estimated $2.77 million, the proposed project would create a three-legged, one-lane roundabout, and be approximately one-half mile in length.

Scheduled to start in April or May 2016, the cost and start dates are estimates.

"They could certainly change before the project begins," said Georgia Deparment of Transportation spokesman Mark McKinnon. "Also, the proposal is just that. It is not the final plan.

The purpose of the meeting is to collect information from the public on the project's design.

"That is the reason we have these public meetings, McKinnon said. We want to hear what the public has to say and then possibly use those comments to alter the plans to better accommodate the needs of the community."
