Fire destroys tire shop

An early morning blaze at a small tire store consumed nearly everything but the cinder block walls and two parked vehicles.

The fire was reported at about 4:30 a.m. by a passerby according to Dawson County Fire Services Deputy Chief Tim Satterfield.

The fire is suspicious in nature, and the business is a total loss, he said.

The shop, located at 18 Blue Ridge Overlook near the intersection of War HIll Park Road and Hwy. 53, is owned by North Energy Investments of Braselton, which also owns the adjoining Chevron gas station, according to Dawson County tax records.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters from Dawson and Forsyth Counties took nearly two hours to contain the blaze, and a small portion of Hwy. 53 was temporarily shut down.

We had DOT out there putting stuff on the road to handle ice, and we got one lane open, Satterfield added.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The shop also included an oil-changing station and a car wash, according to employees at the neighboring Country Cafe, who provided firefighters with free biscuits.

The guys did such a good job, Satterfield said, referring to Dawson County engine companies two and seven, as well as Forsyth company eight.
