A fire at a single-family home last Friday afternoon resulted in an estimated $140,000 worth of damage. In addition, one resident was transported to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation.

The fire occurred at a residence over a basement on Collins Road off Highway 53 East.

Dawson County Emergency Services Deputy Chief Tim Satterfield said the home was approximately 1,800 square feet.

The fire appears to have started in the kitchen, Satterfield said Tuesday.

More than a dozen DCES personnel worked at the scene for approximately two hours.

The home was not a total loss, according to Satterfield, adding that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
