This past weekends 46th Annual Mountain Moonshine Festival probably was the largest yet.

Kare for Kids Vice President Gordon Pirkle estimated 100,000 people came to the 46th annual festival this year.

It was the biggest crowd weve ever had, Pirkle said.

A total of 550 vendor booths lined the streets of downtown Dawsonville. There were also 2,000 show cars at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame.

Saturday morning, the first inductees to the National Moonshiner Hall of Fame were announced. The day closed out with a concert by Confederate Railroad.

We couldnt have asked for prettier weather, Kare for Kids President Calvin Byrd said. We had a huge crowd and great vendors. We appreciated citizens of Dawsonville being patient this weekend.

Byrd said the event wouldnt have been possible without the help of local government. If it wasnt for the citizens, sheriff, county, city, EMS and especially our volunteers, this wouldnt be possible. I just want to thank them.

Exact amount of money raised wasnt available at presstime, but Byrd estimates the festival took in more than $75,000.

All the money raised will go to help children in need in Dawson County.
