On a cold night in north Georgia, the old-school rivalries burned bright as Dawson County traveled to Dahlonega to take on Lumpkin County along with White County.

The crowd was deafening inside what used to be the high school gym (now the middle school) as the three traditional foes faced off.

The Tigers battled their way to a 44-33 victory against the Warriors as eight Dawson wrestlers won their matches against White County.

Dawson wrestlers who pinned their White County opponents included Anthony Underwood (106 pounds), James Evans (126), Cory Jenkins (132), Levi Pressley (145), Preston Adams (160) and Evan Kells (182).

Earning major decisions (wins by 8-14 points) for Dawson were Keaton Toal (195) and Josh Gee (220).

The Tigers wrestled Lumpkin County equally as tough, but the young Dawson squad wasnt able to overcome the strength of the Indians, dropping a close match 42-30.

Several Dawson wrestlers had strong showings against Lumpkin, however, including Evans, Adams, Toal and Gee, who all pinned their Indians opponents.

Travis Dawson (138) earned a 5-0 decision, while Jenkins earned a 9-3 decision.

Next up the Dawson County varsity and JV squads will host the annual Amicalola Classic Tournament on Dec. 29-30 beginning at 9 a.m.
