One man was killed in a motorcycle accident Wednesday, April 8, on Highway 53 near Handy Corner, close to the Pickens County line.

William Christopher Pittman, 32, of Dawsonville, was driving a 2012 Yamaha motorcycle traveling east on Highway 53 when the accident occurred, according to officials with Georgia State Patrol.

Unfortunately, a dump truck had slowed to make a left turn into a private drive, GSP spokeswoman Robin Stone said. When the driver of the motorcycle attempted to pass vehicles that had slowed for the dump truck, it T-boned the dump truck.

The driver of the 1993 Mac truck, Ronald Bearden, 69, also of Dawsonville, was not injured.

No citations were issued, Stone said.

The driver at fault was the deceased.

Neither drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident.

Now that its spring, theres more motorcycles around, Stone said. We ask everybody, including motorcycle drivers, to be cautious of their surroundings. And to please obey all traffic laws.
