Dena Bosten has been named the new chief financial officer for Dawson County. She replaces Cindy Campbell, who is the new county manager.

Bosten officially started as CFO on Jan. 14.

My previous positions with Dawson County required me to be more involved in the details of day-to-day accounting, Bosten said. In my new role, I will be taking a broader approach and looking at the overall financial picture so that I can assist management in making decisions.

Bosten has been employed by the county since 2010, when she started as a general accountant. She then transitioned into the role of payroll accountant in August 2011.

Since May 2012, she has been the accounting and budget manager.

Bosten graduated magna cum laude in May 2008 with a bachelors degree in accounting from the former North Georgia College & State University. She went on to earn her MBA masters in business administration in accounting at Brenau University in August 2010.

Having worked with Dena over the past several years, I have always been impressed by her strong work ethic and conscientious attitude, Campbell said. She not only strives to complete her work, but seeks to truly understand all aspects of her job.

Commission Chair Mike Berg worked with Bosten during the budget process for 2013. I found her to be thorough, knowledgeable (even though she was brand-new to the process) and instinctive toward the needs of the different departments, constitutional offices and outside entities, he said.

She will be an excellent CFO for Dawson County, he added.
