The Dawson County Chamber of Commerce (COC) held its annual Golf Tournament last Wednesday at Crystal Falls Golf Club, and the day encompassed beautiful weather and much success.

Fourteen teams participated in the event, netting over $11,000 in funds for the COC. Christie Haynes, Chamber president, said she is happy with the results.

We are so pleased about the success of the tournament and so grateful to the sponsors, players and volunteers who made the event possible, she said. Crystal Falls is such a beautiful course, and we were blessed with such a beautiful day!

The tournament offered many extras including a Dress-In-Drag event where men golfers had the opportunity to feel beautiful when dressed in fashionable womens clothes. For a small fee of $5, they were allowed to tee-off from the ladies tees. The event was a success, netting over $160.

Winners of the tournament include the team of Duncan Exterminating with a first place net finish, and United Community Banks team, claiming the second place net finish. Other winning teams are Hanson Pipe & Precast taking the first place gross win and SleeveCo., grabbing second. Steve Melching picked up the Closest to Pin win, and Gaye Cantrell snagged the longest drive.

North Georgia College and State University, Bojangles, and Wal-Mart sponsored the boxed lunches for the golfers and Northside Hospital Forsyth sponsored the awards dinner, featuring food from The Varsity. Other event sponsors include Cruise One Dream Vacations, Northside Hospital-Dawson Medical Campus, and John Megel Chevrolet.
