Two teachers involved in an incident that ended with the arrest of one of the women in Gilmer County last month have both resigned from the Dawson County school system.

Nicole Leigh Cagle, 41, of Dawsonville was charged June 22 with party to a crime-terroristic threats for reportedly traveling to the other woman's home "for the purpose to harass, intimidate or threaten" her, according to Gilmer County Sheriff's Office.

"We were in the middle of an investigation based on the incident that happened in Gilmer County," said Dawson County School Superintendent Damon Gibbs. "During that investigation, the teacher that was arrested resigned."

Cagle had been a teacher with Dawson County since 2005.

The complainant in the case, a fellow teacher at Robinson Elementary, also resigned.

"The resignation of the other teacher came [July 24]. It was not the result of the investigation," Gibbs said. "We were looking at the entire incident and asking a lot of questions, but that resignation came very recently."

Both personnel decisions were approved during the Board of Education's special called meeting July 25.

The incident unfolded June 22 when Cagle and a man reportedly approached the home of her colleague on Chatawa Court in Ellijay.

The man, 37-year-old Stephen Ray Sanford of Ellijay, faces charges of terroristic threats and acts and possession of methamphetamine, as well as an open container violation.

According to an incident report released by the Gilmer Sheriff's Office, Sanford told deputies he went there to talk to the homeowner, with whom he was in a relationship.

They were allegedly banging loudly on the home's doors and windows when the resident called 911 to report a burglary. Deputies noted that all four tires on the woman's Lexus SUV had been flattened.
