A 17-year-old surrendered to authorities last week after avoiding arrest for months in connection with a spring burglary in eastern Dawson County.

Connor Eric Hayden turned himself in Sept. 3. He is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, false statements and theft by taking.

Bond was set at $15,200, according to Dawson County Detention Center records.

Hayden is accused of entering a home off War Hill Park Road in May and removing a wooden box containing $900 in cash.

"At the time of the interview, he allegedly said to Investigator Lt. [Dan] Ramsey that the box had been destroyed, burned," said Dawson County Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten.

"Then later they found the box had been returned to the victim's house, but without the money inside it."

Hayden was on Dawson's most wanted list.

"We received information that he was outside the county during this time," Wooten said.
