Dawson County Sheriff's investigators cracked the case of a missing dishwasher by following a blood trail that led them --eventually-- to the alleged culprit, who lives down the street.

According to Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten, 35-year-old Robert Clayton Salvador of Dawsonville was arrested on July 8 on charges of first-degree burglary, criminal trespass, criminal damage to property and theft by taking.

"In May, he broke into a home being built in a subdivision off of Dawson Forest Road and stole items from there, one of them being a dishwasher," Wooten said.

Salvador cut himself during the crime, leaving blood behind at the scene, according to Wooten.

"His blood was sent to the GBI labs and came back as a positive match," he said.

Salvador was taken into custody last week and authorities searched his home, which is also on Dawson Forest Road.

"The stolen dishwasher was installed in the house he was renting," Wooten said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Salvador was being held at the Dawson County Detention Center. Bond had not been set.
