The investigation into the shooting death of a Dawson County man remains a top priority for the Dawson County Sheriff's Office.

Brandon Weaver, 37, was shot in the chest at close range during a fight at the Whitney Place home Nov. 22.

No arrests have been made in the case, though authorities say they know the shooter's identity.

Dawson County Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten said the case remains under investigation.

"We may have some updates later this week," he said.

The fight reportedly started when Weaver and another man arrived at the home to confront the people living there.

Wooten said Weaver's son had been at a birthday party at the home earlier that evening and had called his dad to say he wanted to go home.

The child felt uncomfortable about something going on at the party, according to Wooten.

The confrontation escalated and shots were fired. Weaver was hit twice. He died on the scene.
Wooten said alcohol was involved, a factor that has hindered the investigation.

"That makes our jobs more difficult in that we have to go back and re-interview the people from that night after the fact," he said.

Sheriff Billy Carlisle called the shooting a "tragedy to our community."

"We ask that you respect the privacy of both families involved, as this is a difficult time for everyone. We appreciate your concern and patience as we continue a thorough investigation," he said.

Weaver, a well-known parks and recreation coach, is survived by his wife Heather Weaver, three young sons, numerous family members and friends throughout many communities.
