A man accused of attempted rape during a New Year's Eve party in Big Canoe has pleaded guilty to the charges.

Jose Alfredo Delafuente, 49, was sentenced as a first offender and received a 14-year sentence with a year to be served in jail and the remainder on probation.

On March 1, he pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault with the intent to rape and misdemeanor sexual battery.

Delafuente has been in custody at the Dawson County Law Enforcement Center since his arrest Jan. 9.

Dawson County Sheriff's Lt. Ray Goodie has said that Delafuente was a guest at a party in the gated community when he reportedly forced himself on a woman.

The woman, who suffered injuries during the alleged attack, reported the assault Jan. 3.

Delafuente, who faced a maximum sentence of 21 years and $101,000 fine, was ordered to pay $6,350 in fines, fees and court costs.

He also can have no contact with the victim or her family and is banished from both Dawson and Pickens counties after his release, according to sentencing records.
