A Dawson County man has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after authorities say he backed over his wife in the couple’s Valley Brook Circle driveway Sunday.

Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Robin Stone said Sean A. Smith, 24, was attempting to steer his Jeep Grand Cherokee down the driveway and onto a grassy area when the incident occurred.

Brittany Smith, 23, was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital with obvious injuries to her chest, emergency personnel said.

Her condition could not be determined Tuesday.

According to the incident report, Sean Smith told Trooper A.W. Coleman he did not see his wife when he backed down the driveway about midnight.

Smith, who was arrested for DUI, was released from the Dawson County Law Enforcement Center later that day after posting $5,200 bond.

Sunday’s incident is the second time in less than a month that a woman has been run over in her driveway in Dawson County.

Beth Blount, 29, died April 16 after her Honda Pilot reportedly rolled over her in Burt’s Crossing subdivision.
