An Iowa man accused of sexually assaulting an employee at a local motel late last year was indicted on the charges by a Dawson County grand jury last week.

Kalen Kuske Crandall, 26, was living at the Best Western in Dawsonville on Nov. 1 when he allegedly raped a female working at the motel. His permanent address is listed as Fort Dodge, Iowa.

He was charged with rape and false imprisonment. The charges are felonies.

He is also charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and battery.

The battery charge stems from physical evidence documented on the woman's body, according to the indictment.

Dawson County Sheriff's Maj. Ray Goodie said the woman is in her early 20s and was familiar with Crandall.

"He had been living [at the motel] for the last couple months, so there had been some contact with each other," he said.

Crandall is being held without bond at the Hall County Detention Center.
