Authorities say that a Gainesville man was taken into Dawson County Sheriff’s Office custody late last week after he was allegedly caught breaking into a local residence by a homeowner.
According to Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson, at approximately 3:45 on Thursday, March 12, the owner of a residence near Ga. 400 and Henry Grady Hwy. in Dawson County, was responding to his home alarm system when he encountered Arthur Richard Ardeneaux, 63, of Gainesville, who was allegedly attempting to flee the residence with stolen items.
“The homeowner, armed with a firearm, attempted to detain the suspect until deputies could arrive,” Johnson said, but Ardeneaux was able to flee the scene, heading southbound on Ga. 400.
Deputies pursued Ardeneaux down Ga. 400 until the suspect lost control of his vehicle and crashed at the intersection of Ga. 400 and Harmony Church Road.
Following the crash, deputies were able to subdue Ardeneaux and recover property allegedly stolen from the Dawson County residence.
Ardeneaux has been charged with obstruction of an officer, burglary, reckless driving, fleeing/eluding police officer, and a variety of different traffic citations.He is being held in the Dawson County Detention Center under a bond of $25,200.
