A former member of Dawson County's planning board was arrested Monday in a drug sting.

Elbert Phil Clark, 62, of Dawsonville was charged with trafficking methamphetamine after authorities said he bought 4 ounces of the drug at a local motel.

Dawson County Sheriff's Lt. Col. John Cagle valued the drugs at $5,500.

"That's what he paid to buy it," he said.

Cagle said it is too early in the investigation to say if there would be additional arrests. The case remains under investigation.

Clark is being held without bond while he awaits a hearing in Superior Court on the felony charge.

Clark served as an alternate on the Dawson County Planning and Zoning Board for about 18 months beginning in August 2004.

He was appointed to the position by his daughter, Lori Clark McCormick, the then District 4 county commissioner.
