According to authorities, several thousands of dollars in electrical equipment is missing from two local churches.

Maj. Ray Goodie, commander of the Dawson County Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Division, said computers, musical equipment and other electronics was taken from the Church at War Hill on Feb. 16 and from First Baptist Church of Dawsonville on March 2.

An undisclosed amount of money was also reported stolen.

Individuals also entered New Bethel Baptist Church on Hwy. 136 two times last week, but nothing was taken, according to deputies.

"We're increasing patrols and have new measures in place to try to make sure this doesn't happen again," Goodie said.

There have also been church burglaries reported in neighboring Lumpkin County, as well.

Goodie said investigators are trying to determine if the cases are related.

Anyone with information is asked to call (706) 344-3636.
