Six people were arrested Wednesday for their alleged involvement in what authorities described as a Dawson County-based methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Sherry Lang declined to discuss specifics, saying only that the group had been under investigation for about 12 months.

"We're not releasing the names of those involved at his time, because the investigation is ongoing," Lang said. "There may be more arrests as the investigation continues."

The probe was initiated by the sheriff's office in Forsyth County, where Lang said the Dawson-based operation has networks.

“Over the twelve months the case has been worked we have gotten 200 pounds of meth,” she said.

The GBI, along with the sheriff's offices in Dawson and Forsyth, executed seven search warrants, three of which were in Forsyth, on Wednesday.

The district attorneys in both counties, as well as the Northern District of Georgia U.S. Attorney's office, were also involved in the effort, Lang said.
