A Dawsonville man has been charged in connection with a deadly collision that claimed the life of a 24-year-old Gainesville woman this summer on Ga. 400.

Colon Louis Hartzler, 43, faces one count each of first degree vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and reckless driving, among other charges, in connection with the death of Jenna Annette Fitzgerald.

A spokeswoman for Georgia State Patrol, which investigated the incident, said the charges against Hartzler were issued Oct. 27.

Hartzler, who was taken into custody Monday by Dawson Sheriff’s deputies, is being held without bond at the Dawson County Detention Center.

According to state patrol reports, Hartzler was traveling south on Ga. 400 about 10:20 p.m. June 25 when he attempted to turn left at Carlisle Road.

Fitzgerald, who was a passenger in Hartzler’s Jeep, died after she was thrown from the vehicle and hit by an oncoming minivan.

Hartzler, who had stopped to help Fitzgerald, was also struck by the passing Ford Freestar.

The driver of the minivan, 20-year-old Michelle Nicole Chirillo of Dawsonville, was not charged.
