Authorities are warning the public of a law enforcement impersonator attempting to get personal information over the telephone.

Dawson County Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten said there have been at least three incidents reported in the last week.

"It's been a male caller identifying himself at Lt. John Martin with the Dawson County Sheriff's Office. He's telling them they missed jury duty and he has a warrant for their arrest and he's looking to clear it up over the phone," he said.

The call is a scam.

"We do not have a male lieutenant named Martin working at the sheriff's office," Wooten said. "He's just trying to get your personal information."

There have been similar reports in Forsyth, Hall and Cherokee counties.

"It's possible that this could be the same person," he said.
