Authorities last night arrested a Dahlonega man believed to be responsible for a string of church burglaries in Dawson and Lumpkin counties.

Skyler William Michaelson, 20, is currently being held at Dawson County Jail on charges related to a car chase last night.

Dawson County Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten said additional charges are pending in connection with more than a dozen church burglaries since February.

Lumpkin County officers received a tip that led them to Michaelson.

The pursuit led them to Dawson County where state troopers engaged in a short car chase with the suspect, who left the car and fled into the woods on foot, Wooten said.

"Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard was able to convince him to come out of the woods and surrender to officers," Wooten said.

He was then arrested after 2 a.m. on Harmony Church Road.

Wooten said more details will be released as the investigation unfolds.
