Authorities have arrested a Dahlonega man believed to be responsible for a string of church burglaries in Dawson and Lumpkin counties.

Skyler William Michaelson, 20, is being held at Dawson County Jail on charges related to a car chase early Saturday.

Dawson County Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten said additional charges are pending in connection with more than a dozen church burglaries since February.

"The Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office received a tip from one of the church members in Lumpkin that said they saw their electronic equipment on Craigslist," Wooten said.

The ensuing investigation took them to Dawson County, where Georgia State Patrol troopers engaged in a short car chase with the suspect.

Michaelson eventually left the vehicle and ran into a wooded area off Harmony Church Road, according to Wooten.

"Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard was able to convince him to come out of the woods and surrender to officers [about 2 a.m.]," Wooten said.
